Ice Age Adventures was launched on August 7, 2014. It is a free-to-play mobile game developed by Gameloft, inspired by the popular Ice Age movie franchise. The game combines adventure and puzzle gameplay, where players join iconic characters like Sid, Manny, and Diego on a journey to rescue their friends across various environments. Players navigate through islands, solve puzzles, and face challenges while collecting resources and unlocking new characters. With vibrant visuals, humorous storylines, and engaging gameplay, Ice Age Adventures appeals to fans of all ages. The game also offers in-app purchases for power-ups and special items, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
My Role
As the Design Director on the project, I oversaw the game design team responsible for the entire game design process from inception. This included developing the monetization strategy, gameplay mechanics, and the overall game design documentation. I also led the creation of the quality assurance document and ensured that the game's balancing would support its longevity. We specifically designed the game to have lasting appeal, and it has successfully stood the test of time.
One of the most memorable aspects of the project was collaborating with the talented narrative and audio designers. The movies voice actors to recorded the storyline, bringing an authentic and immersive experience to the game.
Results
Drove global success for Ice Age Adventures, achieving over 10 million downloads on Google Play and high user engagement across platforms. As of today, Ice Age Adventures has been live for over 10 years. Since its launch on August 7, 2014, it has maintained its presence on app stores for a decade, demonstrating its longevity and sustained appeal.
Led design strategy, resulting in an average 4.3/5 user rating from over 1 million reviews.
Implemented monetization features, significantly boosting in-app purchase revenue and ad-based income.
